5th graders started their year off studying artist Leslie Derose, who creates abstracted paintings of bikes using old maps. Students noticed her way of enlarging one section of the bike to create a unique and interesting composition.

Students use viewfinders to zoom into part of a bicycle. They pick a composition that fills up the page to create interest. |

Students use watercolors to paint the negative space between the bikes, thinking about a color scheme that uses analogous or complementary colors. |
