Calligrams

5th graders studied calligrams, a word in which the design and layout of the letters creates an image related to the meaning of the word. Students looked through the book "Bembo's Zoo" and studied how the illustrator manipulated his text to create animals for every letter A-Z.

Students used the text tools in Inkscape to design a calligram. They were challenged to represent their image using font choice, color, and arrangement.
