First graders studied the work of Henri Matisse, a French painter who was known for his paper cutouts. We enjoyed learning about how later on in his life Matisse found a way to do art despite being confined to a wheelchair by "painting with scissors" and assembling colorful shapes of paper.
First graders gave a shot at "painting with their fingers" by using an iPad app called Inkpad to create overlapping organic and geometric shapes inspired by Matisse.
