Abstract photography

Photographers create beautiful abstract images by using a number of techniques. The 5th grade classes studied the use of color, texture, blurs, darks & lights, and getting in close as a way to create artistic images. In Ms. Donnelly's 5th grade writing class, students had written a short story about a character who faced an obstacle and overcame in. As a way to tie Graphic Arts to writing class, each 5th grader thought of an emotion that their character felt at some point in the story. Their job was to convey that emotion through photography.

I'm blown away by the beauty of these images that 5th graders created. They pushed themselves to think outside the box and explore how images make us feel.

  1. Molly, this is such a great pairing of the written word and visual imagery. My middle school students would have loved something like this.
